Foxton Locks offers an excellent learning environment that extends beyond the classroom and helps schools deliver learning opportunities to inspire in a creative and authentic way.
Learning
The PSHE Curriculum is everchanging and wide-reaching. Schools and educational providers have to access a vast network of outside providers to cover the areas and topics highlighted by the national curriculum.
The Canal and River Trust has created a whole range of materials that can be used to support the PSHE curriculum. The CRT promote health and wellbeing by being near water. Whether it’s walking the dog, cycling to college or just looking for a place to relax, think or picnic, spending just 2 hours a week in blue spaces such as canal towpaths, river banks and reservoirs can help you feel happier and healthier. Find out more about what the canals and do for our physical and metal well being by following the link.
The CRT have created a range of materials based on the acronym CANAL that encompasses the focused areas that can be explored by water. Each of these have activities and suggested topics that can be explored in a classroom environment or outside. The pack also included links to outside agencies that can be used when delivering a PSHE curriculum.
Our national waterways and rivers are a vital source of refuge for nature and wildlife. the canal network that was been left behind during modern transportation development has become a shelter for nature. This lifeline is also under threat, invasive species, pollution and litter are making changes to a delicate ecosystem. Using the waterways to help our mental health and become familiar with our natural environment has been proven to improve our ability to relax.
