Front of House Volunteer

The Role:

You will be the first point of contact for all our visitors, providing a helpful, welcoming, and friendly greeting. Front of House volunteers greet and engage with visitors, provide information on our exhibitions and activities, as well as helpful directions to the onsite facilities at Foxton Locks. They have a vital role in helping to create a warm welcome for all our visitors, answering general queries, ensuring that visitors have an interesting and enjoyable visit.  

 

Our volunteer team are incredibly important to the Museum, working alongside paid staff in a wide variety of roles.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming all visitors to the museum.

  • Taking payment for entry and shop sales.

  • Answering enquiries from members of the public, visitors, groups, etc.

  • Inform visitors about current exhibitions, events and activities to help them plan their visit

  • Hand out children’s trail sheets for the museum and the site in holiday periods.

 

Commitment:

  • We are looking for people who can regularly volunteer, ideally for just a morning or afternoon each week. The Museum is open five days a week from Easter through to October, and there are two shifts available each day; 11am until 1.30pm and 1.15pm until 4.00pm. During the winter months the museum is open weekends only

 

Training: 

  • Training will be provided prior to starting

 

Requirements:

  • Driving license

  • References needed

  • Over 18+ years old

  • Interested in / a willingness to learn about museums, heritage and local history

  • Friendly, engaging, and approachable

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

​Volunteers will be able to claim reimbursement for travel.
