Social Media Volunteer

The Role:

You will help to develop and grow the museum’s social media channels to raise awareness of the incredible history of the site and the activities of the museum to the general public.  

 

Key Tasks:

  • Working with our Museum Manager to create engaging social media posts and content.

  • Research points of interest in our collection for discussion on social media.

  • Assist with creating and monitoring social media ads.

  • Assist with creating monthly reports on social media activities.

 

This role will suit someone who is: 

  • Familiar with different types of marketing and communications media, including electronic and social media.  

  • Familiar with using social media and other online tools to develop awareness and interest in a project. 

  • Confident to write in a clear, succinct, and accurate way. 

  • Interested in history and especially canal history or wants to learn more about the history of Foxton Locks and surrounding canals. 

  • Ability to transform small snippets of information into interesting and engaging stories suitable for Instagram, Facebook etc. 

  • Self starting and motivated to work independently and as part of a team.

Commitment:

  • Flexible but expected to be around 3-4 hours a week. Once established some remote working can be done.

 

Requirements:

  • References needed

  • Over 18+ years old

  • Interested in / a willingness to learn about museums, heritage and local history

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
